Belotero is a range of dermal fillers created by Merz Aesthetic. The company specializes in manufacturing advanced medical devices and anti-aging products for renewed and revitalized skin. This product line is formulated using hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced in the body. Hyaluronic acid binds with water molecules, making it one of the most sought after ingredients for treating wrinkles and folds, enhancing facial features, and restoring volume in hollow areas of the face. Belotero has the lightest consistency among other dermal filler brands, making it a a popular choice for those who haven’t had fillers before.
Belotero products are dubbed as “starter fillers,” because it is a good treatment of choice for those who are new to the dermal filler scene. Because it is considered a soft filler, it can be injected to sensitive areas of the face, with little risk of causing lumps, nodes, and discoloration that is common in thicker fillers. If you want to introduce your patients to the benefits of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, this product is a good introductory filler to recommend.
The under eyes and the areas around the mouth are considerably thin, and not all hyaluronic acid dermal fillers contain the right size of particles to better penetrate these areas. Belotero is an ideal product for anyone, who wants minimal impact or subtle results instead of the “made-up look” that dermal implants can produce.
There are five Belotero products currently available to provide solution for every patient’s needs. These products are designed knowing that different facial structures and skin types require different formulation and consistencies. You can use any of these products individually or combine them to achieve optimal benefits.
Skin contains natural substances that keeps it hydrated, elastic, and smooth. These substances inevitably diminish overtime – leaving our skin prone to lines and wrinkles. Some people, who are often exposed to environmental and internal stressors, will manifest more severe signs of premature aging through their skin.
Temporary dermal fillers like Belotero aim to delay the signs of aging and correct existing skin defects by replacing the lost hyaluronic acid in the skin. As HA binds with water in the dermis, it fills in lines, furrows, and creases. It is also effective in plumping the hollow areas under the eyes.
Before starting the treatment, the procedure, outcome, cost, and side effects must be discussed with the patient. Choose from the five variants of Belotero products, based on what your patient wants to achieve. Apply a topical numbing cream to eliminate discomfort. The chosen product is then injected into the target areas. The whole process may take about 30 minutes to complete.
How Long Does Belotero Last?
The lifespan of Belotero fillers can last between 6 to 9 months. The results may be different for each patient, and will also depend which filler is used. A maintenance session every 6 months is enough to keep the newly treated skin healthy and young looking.
It is recommended for your patient not to take aspirin, vitamin E, or any blood thinning medications and supplements a week prior to injection. Postpone the treatment if the target area develops a rash or other dermal conditions, as the filler can aggravate the condition or delay the healing process. This product has not been tested in individuals below 18 years or patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding patients.
Patients can immediately leave your office after the procedure. Redness, itching, swelling, and tenderness may occur, but rarely last more than a week. Formation of lumps and bumps have not been reported for this treatment, as confirmed by a 5-year retrospective safety review among 317 patients.
The FDA-approved Belotero line may cost your client between $585 to $700 for each treatment. The number of syringes needed depends on the type, location, and quantity of skin imperfections to be treated.
