The Thermage TR-2 Return Pad is single-use consumables that is used with the Thermage CPT system as part of a skin tightening treatment. You can purchase this pad online from DoctorMedica.co, or, alternately, you can call Doctor Medica to make an order.
This single-patient device is individually packaged and is available in boxes that each contain 12 pads.
The Thermage TR-2 Return Pad is a rubber, non-active electrode that should be attached to a patient that is going to undergo a treatment with the Thermage CPT system. This pad serves as grounding electrode that maintains consistent electrical contact between the patient’s skin and the treatment tip being used on the Thermage CPT system.
Treatments with the Thermage CPT system are skin-tightening procedures that have many benefits, including minimal downtime.
This medical device is a self-adhesive rubber patch that consists of a non-active conductor. This single-use product has a mat-like design. Other components of the Thermage CPT system include the main radiofrequency generator unit, an operator Handpiece, and a cryogen unit that supplies cooling bursts to the skin during treatment.
Patients with aging skin experience skin laxity issues due to the decrease and breakdown of collagen, one of the major dermal structural proteins, in their skin. As a result, many of the hallmarks of aging, including wrinkles and a loss of tone and elasticity start to appear. A treatment session with the Thermage CPT system triggers collagen remodeling through the volumetric heating of deep dermal layers, which results in both immediate and long-term effects. There is immediate skin contraction and also the activation of the body’s wound healing process, which results in the formation of new collagen. This new collagen intensifies the initial tightening effect over time.
A Thermage TR-2 Return Pad is affixed to the patient during a treatment so that a return path is created for the electrical current from the Thermage CPT system can return to the transducer on the system.
A treatment session with the Thermage CPT system should be done in a clinical office setting by a qualified and relevantly-trained doctor. Before proceeding with radiofrequency delivery, take photographs of the treatment area so that the results obtained can be assessed accurately. Next, prepare the treatment area by cleansing it and applying a temporary stencil of a grid for guidance on Handpiece placement. Also apply a layer of Coupling Fluid to the treatment area. Attach a Thermage Return Pad on the patient's body; place it where the greatest surface area is utilized during the treatment process.
Using the Handpiece and a suitable treatment tip, treat the skin at the target area with pulses of radiofrequency energy. Additional pulses can be directed at areas requiring further treatment. The session is completed with the removal of the grid with alcohol.
A treatment session with the Thermage CPT system usually takes about 30 minutes to 90 minutes, according to Solta Medical—the manufacturer of Thermage products.
The Thermage CPT system has a wide range of applications due to its interchangeable treatment tips, which are designed for a variety of indications and treatment areas. For instance, when used on the face, the Thermage CPT system can lift the cheeks, recontour a weak jawline, soften nasolabial folds, or treat loose neck skin. Furthermore, Thermage CPT can be used to contour body areas like the upper arms, thighs, buttocks, and stomach, and it can be used to improve body cellulite. and reduce lines and hooding at the periorbital area.
The Thermage CPT system is approved by the FDA for the purposes of alleviating wrinkles and tightening skin. As skin melanin does not affect the outcome of treatment, the Thermage CPT system is suitable for all skin types.
The results from a Thermage CPT treatment can last for a few years, depending on the patient’s skin condition and aging process.
The Thermage CPT system is a versatile device with many applications, but the system can only be used with a Thermage TR-2 Return Pad.
A treatment session with the Thermage CPT system is done to treat mild to moderate skin sagging. Patients who do not want to undergo surgical intervention and who have realistic expectations on the results of the procedure benefit most from treatment. Obese patients or people with extreme skin redundancy or laxity may not benefit from Thermage CPT treatment. Additionally, the Thermage CPT system is contraindicated in patients with apacemaker or any other implanted medical device; patients with a metal implant or implants; women who are or might be pregnant; and patients with an active skin infection.
While a Thermage CPT treatment session is generally very safe and associated with a low complication rate, patients should be aware of some expected effects that are likely to occur after the procedure. For instance, it is common for patients to experience mild and transient redness and swelling in their respective treated area. These effects usually subside shortly.
On occasion, the treatment may cause slight injury to the epidermal layer, resulting in the development of crusts, scabs, or blisters. These effects are minor and should not cause any scarring. Another rare complication is the development of usually temporary but sometimes permanent small tissue irregularities. Lastly, some patients that have undergone a treatment with this device reported that they experienced temporary numbness, tingling, or altered sensation at their respective treated site.
The list of side effects presented here are not exhaustive. Please refer to the package insert that comes provided with a unit of the Thermage CPT system for a full list of contraindications, precautions, and potential unintended effects.
