Product Information

Where can I buy it?

DUROLANE® is a single viscosupplement injection, and you can purchase it from us online or by phone. Help reduce osteoarthritis pain and help your patients avoid knee or hip surgery.

What is it?

DUROLANE® is an injectable viscosupplement doctors inject into a patient's knee, hip, or other joint that is affected by osteoarthritis. it is made of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) that is similar to the synovial fluid that is normally found in joints. The hyaluronic acid in it is highly purified, highly concentrated, and is injected in high levels. This helps the hyaluronic acid to last longer within the joint, providing patients with long lasting osteoarthritis pain relief from a single injection. This single injection can be more convenient for patients than the series of three to five weekly injections with other viscosupplement brands.

Why do doctors choose it?

Osteoarthritis treatments like lifestyle modifications and pain medication can stop working after a while as this chronic disease progresses. Doctors like you use it to replace or supplement these other osteoarthritis therapies, helping your patients delay knee or hip surgery while giving them pain relief.

How does it work?

When a patient has osteoarthritis, the cartilage in their knee, hip, or other joint is breaking down. This reduces the protection in the joint, allowing bones to rub together. With hyaluronic acid that is similar to the natural synovial fluid in the knee, an injection can lubricate the joints and give them a cushion effect to prevent the bones from rubbing. As the bones no longer rub together, they are no longer causing pain and inflammation in the joint, improving movement.

What are the side effects?

Common side effects include swelling, stiffness, general joint pain, and injection site pain, although most reactions do not last long and are mild to moderate. Clinical trials of its injections did not have side effects like allergic reactions, acute inflammatory reactions, or hypersensitivity, and since this product comes from fermentation of bacteria and not from animal sources, it is safe for your patients who are allergic to birds, eggs, and feathers. Contraindications include use in patients who have a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid and use in patients with a skin disease or a knee joint infection or other infection in the treatment area. The safety of it for treating pregnant or nursing mothers or children has not been established. Hyaluronic acid is normally found in tissue, joints, and other areas of the body, and it gradually breaks down naturally within the joint.

When does it start working?

Some patients may get osteoarthritis relief shortly after their it injection, but others may not experience relief right away. A single it injection can give patients relief from their osteoarthritis pain for up to about six months. A it treatment involves a single injection into the affected joint, requiring only about ten to fifteen minutes.
