At week 5, the dose can be increased to 0.5 mg once a week. The maximum dose of OZEMPIC® is 2 mg once a week.Safety Considerations
Consider the following when prescribing OZEMPIC® for patients:- Common adverse reactions are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation.
- Patients with elevated serum calcitonin or thyroid nodules should be evaluated by an endocrinologist.
- Monitor for signs of pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain, with or without vomiting). Discontinue use of OZEMPIC® promptly if suspected, and do not restart if confirmed.
- Inspect diabetic retinopathy, especially in patients with a history of the condition.
- OZEMPIC® pens should never be shared between patients to prevent the transmission of blood-borne pathogens.
- Check renal function, particularly in patients reporting severe gastrointestinal reactions.
- Discontinue OZEMPIC® if serious hypersensitivity reactions happen, especially in patients with a history of such reactions to other GLP-1 receptor agonists.
- If symptoms arise, suspect gallbladder disease.
- Reduce insulin dose when initiating OZEMPIC® to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia.
