Crespine Gel Plus is a viscosupplement used to treat osteoarthritis. It is often used on the knee and hip in order to improve joint function and relieve pain. Reports on side effects resulting from treatment with Crespine are rare. In fact, a recent study published on the US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health by Khaldoon Bashaireh (See study), concluded side effects from therapy with Crespine were of a minor nature and short lived.

Common side effects

  1. Temporary erythema(redness)
  2. Slight swelling
  3. Pain
  4. Sensation of heat
  5. Hypersensitivitywith extensive erythema (redness) and swelling
  6. Persistent paresthesia, a pins-and-needles sensation (from prilocaine).
  7. CNS manifestations(from prilocaine): lightheadedness, nervousness, apprehension, euphoria, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, tinnitus, blurred or double vision, vomiting, sensations of heat or cold, numbness, twitching tremors, convulsions, unconsciousness.
  8. Signs and symptoms of depressed cardiovascular function
  9. Allergic reactions: skin lesions, urticaria (hives), edema (swelling), anaphylaxis.

Injection-related symptoms usually spontaneously disappear within two to five days after the injection. Hypersensitivity may occur immediately or two to four weeks after the injection and may last up to two weeks, and it is usually mild to moderate.
